Access to security system through firewall

$

Hi folks.

This is doing my head in...

I have recently been ported over from Bigpond Cable to NBN. With the install came a shiny new router (F@st5355TLS).

The problem I have now is with my home security system. I can only access the cameras on my phone when I'm not connected to WiFi, unless I use their internal IP address.

I have set up port forwarding in the router and it seems to be working as I can View the cameras from outside the home network (4G), but I cant seem to go from WiFi through the router to the WAN and back in to the cameras.

I am using a dynamic DNS server, and have it configured and working (this problem happens if I use the Telstra supplied IP reported by my router as well).

This is my config:

Enabled port forwarding on the camera's internal  IP address (192.168.x.x)

Set the router's firewall to Low (allow all LAN to WAN and allow all WAN to LAN)

I know a little about computer networking, but am by no means an IT expert (I i'm hoping one of you out there are). Smiley Wink

I've tried Telstra on the phone, but either I can't explain myself well enough, or it is outside of their scope to fix.

I read somewhere that they now have a DNS side firewall to block access to harmful websites (Pirate Bay, etc.), I wonder if that may have something to do with it...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Geoff.

Telstra NBN connection Kit

When trying to connect my Sagemcom F@st 5355 modem that was supplied by Telstra the "online " light did not turn green.

I tried calling 1800996203 to get assistance but I was told by a very hard to understand operator that due to technical difficulties they could not help me and to phone back in an hour. I phoned back in an hour and was told by another very hard to understand operator that they still could not assist me and to phone back in 4-5hrs.I asked to speak to his senior however he said there were no managers working. I asked to be put through to complaints but apparently they were not there either.

NBN SIP settings

So I've about had it with the paperweight TG799 that Telstra have supplied and I want to upgrade to something that isn't a piece of junk.

I have tried putting it behind another router but have intermittent issues with incoming calls going straight to voicemail regardless of what I do with ports and DMZ etc.

Why do Telstra refuse to give me the SIP settings to configure my own ATA? I asked them and got some bollocks about "Security reasons", which sounds like crap to me considering every other VOIP provider gives you these settings.

Of course they refused to connect me to the Uni-V port too

Why is NBN connection not available through Telstra?

After many years of subscribing to BigPond and other Telstra services, my home address has now been switched to another provider - why - for months I have been in a NBN rollout area where my individual address was noted as additional work required. I was supposedly registered with Telstra (and other providers) to be told as soon as NBN could be connected. Well, I never heard anything from Telstra but emails and letters from others, and I checked the Telstra availability site just about every day, so last week I accepted an offer from another provider and I'm now on a reasonably fast FTTN connection.

This is a cut and paste from Telstra NBN Availability website a few minutes ago (xxxx's are mine):

THE NBN ISN’T AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA YET,

Thinking of moving to nbn , but i want to know more about teh gateway max 2 modem / router.

All other devices i have used since 1995 I have been able to find an online manual to see what the capabalites are.

With this gateway max 2 I cant locate very much information on it.  Does someone have a link to teh manual and or what the menu options are so that I can determine what tweaking i can do to the max 2?

some of teh questions i have but not limited to these are:

can  i change the wifi channel?

can i list the dhcp

If i make changes such as wifi name can I save the changes to the modem.

etc etc etc without knowing the menu hard to deteremine other questions.

Thanks in advance any links etc to find out more about the gateway max2

BTW going to a telstra store is not much help, doesnt seem like they know much about the modems.

My 80 year old mother in law has an ADSL2 service. SHe went to buy some credit for her mobile and was upsold/downsold a bundle to convert her ADSL2 to an NBN service.

Does this mean that her normal PSTN service will be converted to a VOIP service?

Telstra Max 2 Modem

I am having problems with the modem connecting to the internet.
I changed plans in November last year and received the new modem.
It dropped out and could not get it to recover by powering down. Eventually I called the help desk and was asked to push the reset button. This seemed to work for a time. It seemed to only work for a few days at a time. I then went to a Telstra store and complained. I received a new modem very promptly(good service).

However the new modem after a few days is doing the same thing. Is there a known problem with these modems or is there a new firmware upgrade available that will fix this problem. The previous modem I had had no issues.

NBN fixed wirelss Tower location

The roll-out map says they have started fixed wirelss construction for my location.  My house is surrounded by 40 metre gums so a couple of them will have to come down to give us line-of-sight, and I want to do that now so that we are ready when the service starts up.  So, I need to know where the tower is/will be as there are several towers visible from here.   Thanks    Peter

Internet keeps dropping out

My internet keeps dropping out and the only way i can get to use it is to restart the computer.  I am doing this up to 20 times per day to average maybe 5 minutes usage at a time.

Also am paying for 200GB per month plan with Telstra.  We get a email saying we have reached half way normally about 4-5 days out of refresh and they slow us up that badly we cannot use it. Does anyone else have this problem. Spoke to someone tonight about it and was told there is nothing they can do. We need to monitor our usage and then we can log some form or something.  I am totally lost

Anyone got any ideas

Telstra Speed Test has suddenly failed tonight with "Configuration Load Failed" message and advice to alert website manager.

It has been working fine until now, apart from inability to measure packet loss rate, always giving a -1% result.

How to change MTU on Technicolor TG799vac

Hi,

I have Telstra NBN, and noticing suboptimal performance on my NBN link. After some trouble shooting, I've found that the default MTU setting of 1500 is causing packet fragmentation. The best setting I've found is 1472. I can change this easily on my mac/pc, but can't on the phone/tablet.

Is there a way of setting the MTU on the TG799vac to be 1472 so that the handheld devices work optimally?

Product Name: Technicolor TG799vac
Software Version: 15.3
Firmware Version: 15.53.6886-510-RF

Thanks

We were connected to NBN this month.  Yesterday I upgrated by OSX to Sierra 10.12.3 on my desktop and now my Mac Mail won't send.  It will receive.  It is working on Webmail so presume the problem is in the upgrade.  I've been shoved around 3 different areas of telstra and currently waiting on a phone interview.  Meanwhile has anyone else had the problem and found the answer? Thanks.

Remote Access for Sagemcom F@ST 5355 not working

I recently joined Telstra NBN and got delivered the Sagemcom F@st 5335 modem. I have enabled Remote Access on this router however when I access from outside my network (internet), it doesn't accept the password. I am using the same password as what I use when I login from within my network. Does anyone know why this would be the case? BTW this modem could do with a huge uplift to bring it to the modern age. It has only 2x 100Mbps LAN ports! I would prefer 4x 1Gbps ports.
