Hi all,
I have recently upgraded from ADSL 2+ to the NBN over fixed wireless, and so far so good, only had 1 drop out so far, but i do have some leafy tree branches near the line of sight toi the tower that i plan to remove soon.
I ordered the service as 25mb (which telstra told me i had to do) then after it was active, i added the speed boost package for the increase to 100Mb (at half the normal pprice, aparently that is the current deal). I have been doing speed tests and my downloads are still maxing out around the 23-24Mb but uploads have shifted from 3-4Mb to 10-12Mb.
Due to the increase in upload speed, i would say they have applied the speed boost.
I have been looking for any articles that say what speeds are actually achievable over the fixed wireless, and the best i can tell, is that 50/20Mb is the max (see this article http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/12/fixed-wireless-nbn-gets-a-speed-boost/ )
My question is, can 100Mb actually be achieved over fixed wireless, or is 50Mb the max it supports right now, and if 50Mb is the max, how can they sell me a 100Mb speed boost on this service? Does their system not say to them hey he is on fixed wireless and can only have a 50Mb speed boost.
Would appreciate any references to any more recent docs/articles saying 100Mb is supported, otherwise I'm gonna call and ask to be moved to the 50Mb price if this is the max it can deliver.
I know 4G based technology seems to support faster than 50Mb as a friend just brought a new iPhone and can get 80Mb peaks on the speed test sites, I just can't find anything official saying 100Mb is achievable on NBN fixed Wireless. It is also worth noting that our tower has only just within the last 5 weeks been activated for NBN and is a brand new tower.
