NBN saga: my journey starts...

Week 1: my name is dy1an and this is my NBN story

So many months ago I got excited as the NBN roll-out started in my town (3CAS) (FTTN) live date 28/10/26

as the months shortened to weeks
I decided it was time to select my RTS (telstra, usually my services are with telstra)

I contacted the Sales Live time via the Telstra - 24x7 Chat

We discussed options and as we progressed through the chat stages
A speed test was preformed and it came back

"9-14 Mbps" - (slower thank my current ADSL 2+ speed-test)

my heart sank i started to shake and some inaudible noises were made from behind the screen and keyboard

("$#@%#$@%@#$%#$%#@!$%#$^%$#!^$#%! ")

none of this was directed at the consultant

I disconnected for the chat and went and sulked

now as weeks and month of waiting got closer to days

I decided I'll go and sign up anyways
This time I went into the store (as i had to pickup my new Google Pixel XL - a very happy note 7 refugee here my time on that island was not fun)

As we went through the steps to sign up for NBN another speed-test was preformed

and it came back with no possible speed but it had changed from

FTTN to FTTP

this time my heart didn't sink but some inaudible sounds of excitement did occur

So I put in a Pre-Order

as the lovely consultant i had the time couldn't give me a good reason as to why
(my assumation was that the quality of the copperlines in my street were far under the minimum)

So when I returned home I wandered around the street, nearest node was some 1000 metres away
and there was no construction of FTTP anywhere to be seen in the street
(I already knew this... but we can dream)

So i decided to contact the NBNco and spoke to a young lady who we will call "madison" for story purposes

Madison to advised that FTTP was going to be available to myself
and that the date was 28/10/16 when it was to go live

after going over the story with her, regarding the technology change from FTTN to FTTP
and speed tests and all that

she kindly advised that i should raise a ticket with Telstra to have the construction date checked
with the *network operations centre* nbn.co as she didn't have access to the back-end

so off I went and called telstra after battling through phone ques and transfers

I finally found a helpful soul in ben

Who was able to raise 2 tickets

1: regarding the technology change
2: regarding the construction date for the FTTP in my street

he gave me a callback link and that I was to press the magic button in 48hrs

we are currently 24 hrs into this 48hrs....

hopefully there will be some information to add to my map and story tomorrow

wish me luck

until then, "smile, it's all in the learning" - dy1an
