Telstra t-voice 502 handset

Telstra t-voice 502 handset
I purchased 2 t-voice 502 handsets from Telstra for use on the NBN. When I installed, they both keep displaying: "operation failed", they beep, then that disappears and "please provision a line" appears accompanied by a beep.

The phone works, I can make and receive calls, and access message bank, but these messages keep reoccuring every ten minutes.

I have a t gateway tg797n v3 gateway modem that Telstra supplied a few years ago now.
 
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions??

(I have copied this from a previous thread as i am having the same issue and have spent hours on the phone to tech support only to have the proposed resolution of sending me a new handset. Note that the previous thread stated this did not work. I also have 2 handsets experiencing the same issue so i am very sceptical that getting new handsets will resolve anything)
