Had the NBN connected yesterday to hook up to their HFC service. Have been on a Telstra Small Bundle plan for a while that I presume comes with a download speed that Telstra categorise as "Fast". Previously had cable broadband for at least 10 years that delivered typical download speeds in a range 26 to 36 Mbps depending on traffic etc (tested on line using 'ozspeedtest'). Self installed the new Telstra Gateway Plus modem, followed the script for this eg modem plugged direct into the wall socket etc, very smooth start up then checked the download speed a few times in the days since. Max I get is 24 Mbps. I went through the change because the pre existing services that include the phone land line will be shut down in 18 mths, which is a nonsense when the NBN comes to me in the same old coax line at the pole in the street and the phone via the HFC line comes with such features as a reputation for drop outs, a 2nd rate audio c/f the old copper service and you cant use it in a blackout nor dial 000. Absolutely brilliant ! Are we a flock of sheep or what ?
