Ok, finally got onto the nbn about 2 weeks ago with telstra.
However modem provided "telstra gateway max" in short sucks.. WIFI keeps cutting out. Old coverage was better.
Rather than opt for an extender/booster, I thought it best to go to harvey norman and by a decent modem router.
After looking at about 10-15 various modems a "sales rep" came over and after discussing my requirements he suggested 2 units. I asked a very simple question - were they nbn ready.
I opted for the most expensive unit. I wont bore people with details but essentially wifi coverage was great but lost ability to make or receive landline calls.
Wenr back to harvey norman and spoke with tech guy in refunds section and learnt that problem would have been that the nbn uses VOIP but the modem purchased not configured. I was super peeved and had a go at the company as to why they gave me bum advice in the beginning leading me to spen $580 on the best modem router they had.
After speaking to the tehc guy thought i would keep and use gateway as the modem and the $580 unit as the router. Back to india 2 times, technically could work but the gateway unit created a bunch of problems. I gave up and connected gateway back up.
Does anyone know of a great modem router nbn ready and works with VOIP so i can get rid of gateway. Again i am not interested in keeping gateway and using a booster/extender
